Our story – The Tailory New York
To start with, please listen to how our brand was born. Shao Yang, our founder, first got the idea to launch The Tailory New York after spending numerous years in fashion design and men’s tailoring. She started to apply her learnings towards her own wardrobe. As a pantsuit enthusiast and a fan of men’s fashion and tailoring, Shao had always been drawn to tailored items. She strived to create garments that bore a message of confidence for the owner. Shao’s style icons were Sean Connery, Cary Grant and Daniel Craig. She admired their classic gentlemen’s style. After completing a Fashion Design program at Parsons, followed by short periods in custom tailoring, fashion design, fashion styling and brand development, Shao wanted to create clothing for all genders. In 2013, she launched The Tailory New York. It gave her the perfect combination of fashion design and custom-made tailoring.
Our brand
The Tailory New York uses modern fashion design with classic custom and bespoke tailoring. We believe that tailored clothing is for all genders and cater equally to men, women and non-binary individuals.
Our concept
Our mission is to supply individually designed, fitted and curated collections for men, women and non-binary individuals. We appreciate the importance of a suit working not only for an individual’s style preferences but also for lifestyle and body shape.
Our materials
Our collection of house materials ranges from Super 120s to Super 150s wool. We source them from various reputable Asian mills. We also stock Super 110s to Super 180s branded European wools from well-known names such as Vitale Barberis, Loro Piana, Scabal, Dormeuil, Mazzoni, Policarpo and Escorial. We also carry cotton shirting from brands including Albini, Thomas Mason and Canclini.
Replications
We’re happy to replicate suits you own and love the fit of – we believe we can make them even better! We can add further personalisation and upgrade your favourite suit.
How our suits are crafted
Suit patterns at The Tailory New York are always cut individually – we never use template patterns. This means you can fully customise your bespoke suit’s fit, style and design. Our default construction is half canvas with full canvas lapels. You can upgrade to full canvas for $150 if you wish.
Our alterations
We provide complimentary alterations on our suits for up to a month. After that, we add a fee. All alterations are done in-house by our professional tailor. We do not offer alterations on suits that haven’t been made at The Tailory New York.
